General Meetings

The Madison Area Aquatic Hobbyists meet on the third Saturday the month. Please refer to the MAAH Calendar of Events to verify actual dates.

General meetings are held at Dream Bowl on the east side of Madison (13 Atlas Ct., Madison). The meetings start at 11:00.  Dream Bowl serves food and beverages to the meeting room, and is a non-smoking business.  The bowling lanes are open, so there is something for the rest of the family to do if they are not interested in aquariums.

Next General Meeting – February 18, 2012 -

Chrystal Schreck – Natural Resources Educator – Invasive Species / WI DNR

Chrystal will come to the meeting to update us as to what is happening in the state with regards to aquatic invasive species.  She will also clear up misconceptions about the DNR rules for keeping native species of fish, and the prohibited/restricted list of non-native species.

General meetings usually follow this sequence of activities:

  • social time during member check in and set up
  • club business
  • speaker presentation
  • short break to prepare for auction
  • auction

The auction at the general meetings is a combination of donated items and items that are sold for a split between the club and the seller.  If you are interested in selling fish, plants, invertebrates or aquarium-related dry goods at a general meeting please visit the Auction page of this web site.

The cost of attending a general meeting is $5 per person, or $8 for a family.  The MAAH does not collect annual dues, and operates on a Pay-As-You-Go system.  We do however offer an annual pass for $25.00 per person. The pass is available for August through June. For more information please visit the Membership page of this web site.
