Local Aquarium Club to Hold Fundraiser For Neighborhood Nature Center

MENASHA, WI - The Green Bay Aquarium Society (GBAS) is proud to announce that we are holding our first Rummage Sale for a Cause during the Clovis Grove and Gegan Neighborhood Rummage Sale. They are specifically fundraising for Heckrodt Wetland Reserve's new and improved Living Waters Display. 100% of monies raised by selling GBAS Donated Items will go towards this fund.

"This is such a great opportunity," said John Moyles GBAS President. "We, as a club, feel that is important to give back to the community, and what better way than during a neighborhood rummage sale. Heckrodt is doing really great work advocating for the preservation of local waterways and educating people on the importance of conservation."

GBAS will hold its Rummage Sale for a Cause from Thursday May 17th, 2018 to Sunday May 20th, 2018 from 9am to 5pm each day at 736 Arthur Street, Menasha WI 54952. GBAS has a huge inventory of new and used equipment that will be available to purchase, as is, at rock bottom prices.

The event is free, open to the public, and everyone is welcome to attend.

GBAS is a non-profit educational organization whose purpose is to further the study of all forms of aquatic life, to promote interest, exchange ideas, and distribute information concerning the aquarium hobby, and to encourage the display of aquatic life. GBAS maintains several public aquariums, including those at the Brown County Central Library. Club meetings are held each month at 1000 Islands Environmental Center in Kaukauna.

Heckrodt Wetland Reserve is a 76-acre urban nature reserve with habitats including forested wetland, cattail marsh, open water, created prairie, open field, and upland forest. Persisting despite the urbanization that continues to grow around it, the Reserve is home to numerous species of reptiles, amphibians, and mammals. Migrating songbirds and waterfowl nest and feed in its protection.

Green Bay Aquarium Society (GBAS) is pleased to announce it has raised a $3,000 dollars during its Rummage Sale for a Cause. These funds will support the Pond with a Purpose at Heckrodt Wetland Reserve.

The Pond with a Purpose will be Heckrodt’s revamped aquatics exhibit where native fish such as bass and catfish will be featured in a naturalistic environment. This is an important addition to the Heckrodt’s education programming and visitor enjoyment. This falls into GBAS’s purpose of studying all forms of aquatic life.

“I grew up in Menasha, “says John Moyles GBAS President, “Heckrodt is where I used to go to enjoy nature when I was coming of age. We used to come down here and catch turtles and frogs and play tag in the cattails. It is so important to have resources like Heckrodt in the community, where people can connect with nature and to try to capture that spark in the next generation.”
